9 June 2014 — Rotary Fellowships…You Know, Those Fun Groups of Rotarians

IMPORTANT DATES

SATURDAY, JUNE 21 — 3:30pm and DINNER — CELEBRATION AT TLC!  We culminate our Community Grant project by enjoying the grand opening of the new library, where we have provided the shelves and the books and we will help introduce the latter to the former…after we put our gift bookplates inside each book.  IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, we will proceed to Mimi’s Cafe in Chatsworth for a Rotary Year-End dinner celebrating President Sara and our team’s accomplishments.  Details and addresses to follow.

SUNDAY, JUNE 22 — 12:30pm — our FOURTH SUNDAY meeting for June, with special guest speaker WILL HERNANDEZ, Director of Valley Food Bank.  Yes, we really can gather two days in a row, back to back.  We like each other.

THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM

RotaryFellowships

Rotary International designates June as Rotary Fellowships Month, when we take a moment to explore (and consider joining!) one or more of the independent, but RI-approved, groups of Rotarians and Rotaractors who are drawn together by a common interest or profession.

Do you enjoy cycling?  Bird-watching?  Making best use of social networks?  Are you a lawyer, or a doctor, or a law enforcement officer?  Are you interested in the planet’s environment, or travel, or old and rare books?

Please forgive the Program Chair, who due to a busy schedule is recycling some older material and program information (see “environment,” above?), and offers this three-year-old presentation (in two parts, but the whole thing only runs about 21 minutes) about the wide variety of Fellowships available.  And you can help start your own, too; we’ll tell you what steps to take.  A few things have changed since this presentation at a former Rotary Club, but not much…just the same, CLICK HERE for the most current list of active Rotary Fellowships.  (Formatting restrictions–another apology–mean you’ll need to type these addresses by hand, or just do a Google search for the name of the Fellowship.)

(Please also forgive the Programs Chair for the choice of presenter…the Programs Chair is kinda tired of this guy, too.  But the information should be useful and offer up some fun opportunities to make new friends.)

  1. is this still current?

    • A few things have changed since this presentation at a former Rotary Club, but not much. The link above that says CLICK HERE shows the most current list of active Rotary Fellowships.

  2. I belong to a few fellowships: ICUFR (Computer Users), ROSNF (Social Networking), REF (e-Clubs), ROTI (Rotarians on the Internet).
Can anyone guess what my interests are?
Does anyone else in our Club (besides Mel) belong to any Rotary Fellowships?

  3. I’m also a member of the Tennis Fellowship. (I’m the Treasurer of ROSNF.) I’ve chosen thus far not to join the E-Club Fellowship, even though it was started by one of my international Rotary friends, because I feel strongly that there’s enough of an effort by RI and by “terra” Clubs to try to make us a separate category…we are Rotary Clubs like any other, just with a different meeting format. But I’m happy Linda joined it to keep an eye on things!

  4. Thanks for the reminder about the fellowships. It’s time Judy and I looked into the Cycling group.
