27 October 2014 — District Governor Elsa Gillham (Live), Official Visit

Most days, weeks, months we remain focused on what’s in front of us – whether it be projects at home, at work or even volunteering. But every once in awhile, we get to experience something outside our normal routines.

This week we had an opportunity to meet with District 5280 Governor, Elsa Gillham, and share with her our enthusiasm about our Club and its projects. Rotary E-Club members do a great job on the projects we undertake. The One More Item quarterly food drives, the Dance for the Children fundraiser for PolioPlus, collecting toiletries and warm clothing for the Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission, the monthly E-wareness campaigns are all projects which E-Club’s members embrace with gusto.

Which is also the way we approach new opportunities, like those presented by Governor Elsa, many of which E-Club members will no doubt consider adding to their calendars, as well. Participating in such District activities, or even those undertaken by other Clubs, outside our normal routines will not only benefit those we serve, but may very well also benefit us as individuals, and as a Club as well.

Around the Rotary International universe, Rotary Clubs are grouped together regionally for administrative purposes into approximately 500 “Districts.” Each District has one District Governor, who serves as the leader of the volunteer District team in place to support the Rotary Clubs. And each year the District Governor, who as a visiting Rotarian is always welcome in a Rotary Club anywhere in the world, makes one Official Visit to each Club in the District.

The Program for the Club’s monthly Fourth Sunday gathering, on October 26, was this year’s Official Visit, with this year’s 2014-2015 Rotary District 5280 Governor Elsa Gillham of the Wilshire Rotary Club of Los Angeles, accompanied by her husband and fellow Wilshire Rotarian Larry Gillham, and “Chief of Staff” (a position we seasoned Rotarians remember in former District  5260 as Executive Aide) Melody St. John of the Rotary Club of Hollywood.

Here is some information about District Governor Elsa.

  1. Thank you, DG Elsa, for such a VIBRANT visit!

  2. It was a pleasure to welcome Governor Elsa Gillham, Chief of Staff Melody St. John, and Rtn. Larry Gillham to our Fourth Sunday meeting. I must say, I gained a better appreciation of Gov. Elsa’s program on video, and I wholeheartedly agree with Brenda, it was a VIBRANT visit. Thank you!
