24 September 2012 — District 5280 Governor Lew Bertrand’s Official Visit

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Our Sunday 23 September meeting in The Fireplace Room at Denny’s was a memorable one: the official visit of our District Governor, Lew Bertrand! We are very grateful to DG Lew and his team of Lt. Governor Dean Reuter, Executive Aide Sheri Polak, and Assistant Governor Sam Pirnazar for including us in their schedule of visits. A District Governor is not required to make an official visit to a provisional Club (which we still are, driving for 25 and our Charter), but Lew wanted to experience the madness for himself.

Our E-Club is also very pleased, and grateful to our generous donors and participants, to report that the total raised for polio vaccinations by our Third Annual Dance For The Children on 15 September has continued to rise. The way the math works, our event has now brought in enough to save 4,608 children from polio. Don’t be surprised if we can add to that total in next week’s report.

Coming up this weekend on Saturday 29 September, we are privileged to be attending the annual blood drive of Rotary Club of Granada Hills, where we will assist in outreach and database signups for Be The Match, the national bone marrow database registry. Our Club Member Roy Glickman, who says he is with us today only because the database had a perfect match for him when he needed a full transplant several months ago, heads our efforts to raise local worldwide awareness of how easy it is to save a life. For more information, please refer back to our program with Janet Higgins, Outreach Director for Be The Match,

The Drive for Twenty-Five, when we Barter for a Charter…is in progress!

  1. I am so glad to have been able to be present to hear Mr. Bertrand’s comments as well as being able to re-digest via this video. It was wonderful having the 4 distinguished guests and sharing brief chats with them all. A great bing thank you to all dancers and supporters-of-dancers for the successful 3rd Annual Dance Marathon. WooHoo!

  2. As a new member I enjoyed hearing Lew’s comments on the Foundation and the leverage toward a common goal we can all provide.
