16 September 2013 — We Are Not Alone

Your Programs Chair would be happier if the “title” of this week’s program referred to the newly-chartered Rotary Club of ShiKahr, in the capital city on the planet Vulcan. But…it does not. (Yet.)

This week’s program gives us a chance to roam around the world and take a quick look at a few Rotary E-Clubs, because the Rotary E-Club of The Greater San Fernando Valley is not alone! We became the 100th E-Club in the world on 29 March 2013 when we received our charter, and the number has gone a bit higher over these past few months.

Some Clubs meet weekly online in real time…a particular challenge for those with international membership and Rotarians all over the planet. Some remain local, like ours…yet also meet online in real time. Many meet as we do, as you are meeting right now, by visiting a posted program ay any time during the week.

Few appear to have a regular gathering like our monthly Fourth Sunday with a great speaker. Perhaps some of these Clubs will visit ours and pick up that idea. We hope so.

Please enjoy this somewhat-random tour of a handful of E-Clubs around the world. If anything in particular catches your eye, share it! We coud learn a few things ourselves.  Don’t just hit their home page–dig around, see what they’re up to!

No Rotary Club on Vulcan (that we know of), but Live Long and Prosper anyway.

Rotary E-Club of New England (here you must be logged in even to view a program, but see their other resources)

Rotary E-Club of District 1100 (Click for Action!) (our friends President Janice Mason and Immediate Past President Tim Mason, cloes friends of our recent guest from Sweden, DG Karin Janzon)

Rotary eClub One (the first one, when it was an experiment…and it worked)

Rotary E-Club of the Southwest (President-Elect Jim Adlhoch, former member of RC Woodland Hills, has visited our Fourth Sunday)

Rotary eClub of District 3310 (based in Singapore)

Rotary E-Club New York One

Rotary E-Club Croatia (we can’t understand a word after “Predsjednika Burtona” but it’s still fascinating)

Rotary E-Club of Latinoamérica – Distrito 4200 (based in Mexico, Cancun area)

The opinions expressed by guest speakers (in this case, expressed on the websites of other Rotary E-Clubs around the world, as linked here) are those of the speaker(s) and not necessarily of the Rotary E-Club of The Greater San Fernando Valley or its members. No endorsement is implied. Programs are presented for informational purposes only.

  1. My first impression after perusing the E-Club site links above, was that the stories, articles and links on each of the sites provide such a broad and varied spectrum of information about Rotary from around the world. Those who attend E-Clubs, either as members or make-up meetings, have opportunities each time to select new topics to learn about. I love it!

  2. It’s good to see Rotary around the world meeting the needs of people who can’t make a traditional Rotary club work, either because of time or financial constraints. I’m glad “we are not alone”.

  3. A good opportunity to get out of our heads and into those of other e-clubbers.
