15 October 2012 — Vocational Service Update

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Next on the calendar: our Sunday meeting at the end of October will include visitors: a large portion of the Rotary Club of Calabasas, with WAPIs in hand for us to help finish. After that…start thinking, please, about the next great ways we can serve!

The Drive for Twenty-Five, when we Barter for a Charter…is in progress!

THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM

October is Vocational Service Month in Rotary.  Vocational Service is one of the five “Avenues of Service” into which service projects are thought to be divided, but as we quickly learn there is much cross-over in almost every project.  Still, recognizing Vocational Service as an important avenue to pursue as we use our individual skills and talents is an important part of Rotary.

This week’s Rotary International weekly e-mail news focuses on Vocational Service, and in particular on the new “Vocational Training Teams” program, which replaces Group Study Exchange (GSE).  How can we participate?

If the embedded video does not work, please see: Future Vision: Vocational Training Teams (VTTs) from Rotary International on Vimeo.

Here is the story of a Vocational Training Team in Thailand for a water project.

Here, from Rotary International, are facts about Vocational Training Teams.

Here is President Sakuji Tanaka’s blog about Vocational Service and peace…in English and Japanese.

Finally, here is an eight-page comprehensive Introduction to Vocational Service; very useful for ideas.  [2013 UPDATE: THIS PAGE NOW DOWNLOADS, AUTOMATICALLY, TO YOUR COMPUTER AFTER RI’S WEBSITE “UPGRADE.”  IT IS NOT HARMFUL; JUST BE ADVISED THAT CLICKING HERE WILL START THAT PROCESS, BUT YOU CAN STOP IT.  STILL GOOD INFORMATION!]

  1. “It did not change how much I worked, or how hard I worked. But it changed why I worked, and how I experienced my life.”

    I like it….very much.

  2. I did not know that Pres. Tanaka had the blog (it’s so “2012,” isn’t it??) called Rotary Voices.” I think it is a blog by RI, but he contributes quite a bit, giving us his insights from his travels around the world as the sitting RI president.

Here is a funny one I found. I think you’ll find it cutte too:

  3. Well, it was Kenya, not Nigeria…so the web address error is amusing in an odd way…but a goat is still a goat!
