On Saturday, 10 December, five members of the E-Club and about 175 other Rotarians and friends enjoyed the District 5260 Foundation and Holiday Luncheon. The event gave us another reminder that there are many great Rotarians all over the area and all over the world, and it’s fun spending some time with people outside of our own Club.

The keynote speaker for the event was Immediate Past Rotary International Director John Blount, who served a two-year term on the board during the 2009-2011 Rotary years. John was kind enough to schedule a later flight home to Northern California to make time to sit down with us for this week’s program.

On Sunday, I had a wonderful and international Rotary experience. I have a friend on Facebook, Vicki Tejerina, who is a member of the Rotary Club of La Cañada…in Cordoba, Argentina. She was interviewed for a local television station about her Club’s annual music festival for special-needs children, and she shared the link to the live broadcast (of the recorded interview). Only since joining Rotary would I find myself watching streaming television from Argentina, in Spanish (I understood about 30%), about a Rotary project that isn’t too far off from something our Club is planning between here and Kenya. The Rotary world is fascinating and amazing, both locally and everywhere.

John T. Blount has been in the private practice of dentistry for more than thirty years, in Sebastopol, California. A Rotarian since 1977, a Club President, a District Governor, a trainer for Rotary Assemblies, and most recently the Rotary International Director from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2011, John has educated more Rotarians than most of us will ever have the chance to meet. He and his wife Patti are members of the Rotary Club of Sebastopol.

After a stirring speech to the Rotary District 5260 Foundation and Holiday Gala on 10 December 2011, John sat down with us to talk about the Rotary International Board of Directors and how it functions.
