SUNDAY, JUNE 28 — 12:30pm to 2:00pmOur FOURTH SUNDAY meeting for June! Special Guest Speaker: TBA. We gather in The Fireplace Room at Denny’s, 5525 Sepulveda Boulevard in Sherman Oaks.  BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING precedes the main meeting and begins at 11:15 a.m.

We welcome the newest member of our team and family, and newest Member of the Rotary E-Club of The Greater San Fernando Valley: Jorge Vazquez. Jorge, a Past President of the Rotary Club of Glendale Sunrise and a long-time friend of our Club, has transferred to our team as the weekly meeting time of his former Club no longer fits his schedule. Jorge is an Earth Scientist at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and no, he cannot arrange for you to steer one of the Mars Rovers. Welcome aboard, Jorge!

This month’s Rotary E-Club E-wareness campaign presents information about diabetes.  Throughout each month our Club will provide resources gathered by our Club Members.  The information will be helpful to you and to the people you care about. Click here to visit the Campaign page.

OneThe first Rotary Youth Exchange started in 1927 as a project of the Rotary Club of Nice, France and has continued to give amazing cultural and educational experiences to high school students–and to the lucky hosts who come to know them–all around the world.

João Victor Gomes Santos has come to the San Fernando Valley and the Greater Los Angeles area from Aracaju, Brazil.  Aracaju is a small port city, but also the capital of its state, Sergipe, along the northeastern coast of the country.  He has enjoyed his junior year of high school at Taft  Our Club was fortunate to enjoy a visit with João for our Fourth Sunday Meeting on May 31, 2015.  (Purists will point out that this was the fifth Sunday of the month, but the change was made necessary by the U.S. Memorial Day weekend the previous Sunday.)

We enjoyed a captivating lunch with our new friend João, and invite you to enjoy his presentation for yourself here.

Jorge, welcome to our club! I look forward to getting to know you better.

  2. Wonderful presentation by Joao! He sure demonstrates the value of the Rotary Youth Exchange program. How fortunate we are all to have met Joao and shared some time and mutual experiences with each other. I wonder if Joao has told his Brazilian mother that he has invited so many Americans to come and visit his city and family. :-)
